Kerry D. Douglas has been a partner or shareholder of Douglas, Haun & Heidemann, P.C. since 1972. Kerry is the third generation of Douglas’ to practice at the same location in Bolivar, Missouri.
Kerry received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri in 1968 and received his Juris Doctorate in 1970, graduating cum laude. He is a member of Order of the Coif; Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity (Secretary, 1970); and was a member of Missouri Law Review, 1969-1970. He was admitted to the bar in 1970, and is also admitted to practice before the Missouri and U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. Kerry served in the Adjutant General’s Corp of the United States Army from 1970 to 1972, and was attached to the Judge Advocate General’s Corp at Ft. Knox, Kentucky during his final months in the service.
In addition to his legal practice, Kerry is very involved with the community and the legal profession. He served as the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of Citizens Memorial Hospital District from 1979 until 2006 when he resigned that position for family reasons although he remains as one of two original board members. He is also a founder of the Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation, and served as a Board member until 2004 when he retired from that position. Kerry was Board chairman from 1992 to 1996. Kerry is also a founder of the Bolivar Educational Advancement Foundation, where he has served as a Board member and President since 1991. Kerry has been City Attorney for the City of Bolivar, Missouri, since 1973 where he has served a number of Mayors and Councils. Kerry is a member of the 30th Judicial Circuit Bar Association (President, 1973-1974); the Missouri Bar; and in 1992, was appointed by the Missouri Supreme Court as one of five members of the Missouri Board of Law Examiners, a position to which he was reappointed in 1998. He served as the Secretary of the Board from 1996 through October of 2000, as President from 2000 through 2002, and completed his final year as a member of the Board in 2003.

Verna L. Haun has been a shareholder and officer of Douglas, Haun, & Heidemann, P.C. since 1984. Verna received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Baptist University in 1981, (summa cum laude) and received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri in 1984. She was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1984, and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. Verna is a member of the 30th Judicial Circuit Bar Association and the Missouri Bar. She is the past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Missouri Baptist Foundation and currently serves as an advisor to the Board. Verna and her husband, Dwight, have two sons.

Craig R. Heidemann was born July 18, 1969 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was educated in the Hazelwood School District and the University of Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma. He received a bachelor of arts degree in political science, cum laude in 1991.
Heidemann attended the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law and received a juris doctorate degree in 1994. While at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, he was a member of the Journal of Dispute Resolution and published two case notes. He was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1994 and the Illinois Bar in 1995. Currently, he is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri as well as the Southern District of Illinois.
After graduating from law school, Heidemann entered private practice as an associate with the St. Louis, Missouri firm of Coburn & Croft from 1994 to 1995. From April, 1995 to August, 1996 he worked at the Supreme Court of Missouri as law clerk to then Chief Justice John C. Holstein. Heidemann returned to private practice in August, 1996 with the law firm of Douglas, Haun, & Heidemann, P.C. in Bolivar, Missouri. On January 1, 2001, Mr. Heidemann joined the firm as a shareholder.
He is a member of several professional organizations including the American Judicature Society, the American Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, and the Missouri Bar. He served as the co-chair of the Missouri Bar Agricultural Law Committee from 1996 to 1998 and is a board member for the Legal Services Corporation of Southwest Missouri and a member of the Thirtieth Judicial Circuit Bar Committee.
Recent publications include, Missouri’s Fence Law – Ambiguity, Conflict and a Need for Change, published in the Missouri Law Review, Spring, 1998.
Mr. Heidemann’s practice is limited to serious personal injury claims, wrongful death, class actions, civil rights, pharmaceutical products liability and felony and misdemeanor criminal defense. Throughout his practice, he has recovered millions of dollars in settlements and judgments for his clients.
K. Patrick (“Pat”) Douglas is a shareholder of Douglas, Haun and Heidemann, P.C., concentrating his practice in the areas of estate planning, trusts, probate, real estate, corporate and business law, banking and collections. Pat has significant experience drafting trusts, wills, powers of attorney and other estate planning documents, as well as drafting, negotiating and reviewing agreements and leases.
Pat received both his Bachelor’s degree and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He received his undergraduate degree in Finance and Banking in 1996 and his law degree in 1999.
Pat was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1999 and is also admitted in the United States District Court, Western District in Missouri. Pat is also an Assistant City Attorney for Bolivar, Missouri.
Pat serves on the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Foundation board of directors, the Bolivar YMCA board of managers, is a member of the Bolivar Rotary Club, and is a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Bolivar, Missouri.
Pat is the son of Kerry D. Douglas, the senior member of the firm, and is the first member of the fourth generation of Douglas’ to practice in Bolivar.

Donald Brown recently joined Douglas, Haun & Heidemann. Donald, born in Springfield, received his Bachelors degree from Missouri State University. In 2005, he received his law degree from University of Arkansas, Fayetteville (cum laude) and was admitted to the Missouri bar.
John W. Kallenbach joined Douglas, Haun, & Heidemann, P.C. in 1994 as an associate and in September 2000 began working Of Counsel.
John received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Missouri State University in 1991, and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1994. He was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1994, and is also admitted to practice before the Missouri and U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri.
John is a member of the Missouri Bar and also served as Assistant City Attorney for Bolivar, Missouri from 1994 to 1999. John is currently working in an Of Counsel capacity with the firm.

Nathan A. Duncan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Brigham Young University in 2004. He subsequently attended law school at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 2007. Nathan is a member of the 30th Judicial Circuit Bar Association and the Missouri Bar. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri.
Nathan married Rebecca Goodman of South Greenfield, Missouri in 2001. Nathan and Rebecca have three children: Mackenzie, Tyler, and Avery.
A member of both the Missouri Bar Association and Arkansas Bar Association, Jennifer Cole practices family law. She also is a member of the 30th Judicial Circuit Bar Association.
Cole earned her Juris Doctorate in 2011 from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville School of Law. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Arkansas Tech University – Russellville in 2007 She is a member of Delta Theta Phi Legal Fraternity.
Melanie (“Mel”) Myears, raised in Springfield, Missouri, is an associate with Douglas, Haun and Heidemann, P.C.
A lifelong MU Tiger fan, Mel received both her undergraduate degree and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri. She received her Bachelor of Journalism with minors in Spanish and Business in 2009 and her law degree in 2012. Mel speaks advanced Spanish.
Mel was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 2012 and also admitted in the United States District Court, Western District in Missouri. Mel is proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Women’s Fraternity. Mel is an active member of East Grand Church of Christ in Springfield, Missouri.
Before joining Douglas, Haun & Heidemann, P.C. as a law clerk in 2012, Jennifer Fields served in the U.S. Army as a cryptologic linguist. After graduating from St. Mary’s University School of Law with her Juris Doctorate in 2013, she became an associate attorney with the firm. “I wanted to practice in the local area, and after meeting the attorneys at DHH, and in particular the Douglas family, I knew these were the attorneys with whom I wanted to work,” Jennifer says.
Jennifer’s interest in a legal career was piqued while taking a constitutional law class at Missouri State University. Her military background and experience led her to an initial interest in terrorism law. “Although my area of interest changed,” she recalls, “I was determined to work in the legal field.”
Her role at DHH offers Jennifer the opportunity to do both transactional and litigation work. “I feel like I get the best of both worlds,” Jennifer says. “With transactional work, I help people make important decisions about their future, both financial and personal. With litigation, I stand ready to pursue a client’s claim or provide defense before the court.”
Jennifer graduated from Fontainebleau High School, and comes to DHH from Lacombe, Louisiana. She is married to Jesse Fields and has a son and a foster daughter. Her hobbies include reading, travelling, and spending time with her family.
Jason D. Smith
Jason D. Smith joined Douglas, Haun & Heidemann, P.C. in 2013, having practiced law in Oklahoma and Missouri since 2004. He was drawn to DHH for a number of reasons. “I admire the firm, because it has been providing legal services for more than 100 years,” Jason says. “They have a strong reputation for quality legal services, as well as an unmatched commitment to their clients.”
Jason became an attorney in order to be a better servant to others. “I believed that increasing my knowledge base about the laws governing our society would give me a chance to advocate for those around me.” Before entering law school, he earned a BS at MSU in Finance and Business Administration. “Understanding the investment vehicles utilized by my clients and their estate plans has proven useful in my practice areas,” Jason says.
A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jason moved to Springfield with his family when he was in fourth grade and subsequently graduated from Glendale High School. He is married to his wife Kelly, and they have three sons. He is an avid fan of football and participated in the sport from the age of eight through his high school years.
